Amanda Gorman was the first poet to perform at the Super Bowl and recently spoke at President Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20. During her Super Bowl speech, she highlighted three individuals for their leadership. At the inauguration, she presented her poem, “The Hill We Climb.” Gorman is also the first National Youth Poet Laurette and LA Youth Poet Laureate.

Sara Mora is an avid immigration activist and supporter. Throughout her childhood, she worked with church programs to help undocumented and underprivileged families. She has previously worked with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy) in the past, but what sparked the Internet interest was when she revealed that she was undocumented. Millicent Simmonds is speaking out on disability representation in the entertainment industry. She also discusses how 90% of deaf children are born to hearing parents, but many of those parents fail to learn ASL. She argues that this is taking away deaf children’s ability to communicate with their families.
